Bruins Tender Qualifying Offers

The Boston Bruins announced that they have tendered qualifying offers to most, but not all of their restricted free agents. Players receiving their qualifying offers are: Michael DiPietro ($882,500), Trent Frederic ($1,150,000), Kyle Keyser ($787,500), Jakub Lauko ($787,500), Marc McLaughlin ($874,125), Jeremy Swayman ($874,125) and the recently acquired Ian Mitchell ($874,125), Alec Regula ($874,125) and Reilly Walsh ($874,125).

Players not tendered their qualifying offer are: Kai Wissmann ($787,500) and Samuel Asselin ($787,500). They will now become unrestricted free agents on July 1.

A qualifying offer is an actual Standard Player Contract and is 1 year in length. A player, if eligible, can still file for salary arbitration. Teams can submit qualifying offers until June 30 at 5 PM New York time. By tendering qualifying offers, the Bruins will retain right of first refusal to match any offer sheet or receive draft compensation. Qualifying offers expire on July 15, but the Bruins will retain all the rights of an RFA player after the expiration date.

If a player’s base salary was $660,000 or less, his qualifying offer must be 110% of his base salary. If a player’s base salary was greater than $660,000 and less than $1,000,000, his qualifying offer must be 105% of his base salary but can not exceed more than $1,000,000. If a player’s base salary is $1,000,000 or greater, the qualifying offer must be 100% of his base salary. For players who signed after July 10, 2020 the qualifying offer is limited to 120% of the players AAV on their last contract.

Of the Bruins restricted free agents. Only DiPietro, Lauko and Keyser are not arbitration eligible. Team elected arbitration is binding and a team can only walk away from a player elected arbitration ruling if it is more that $4,538,958 for one year or walk away from the second year if the award is for two years and greater than $4,538,958.
