On Wednesday, Boston University improved to 9-3-1 with a win in a non-conference matchup over Quinnipiac who dropped to 9-4-1, with a 3-2 decision. Ty Gallagher continues to get a little more ice time than he did to start the season, but not to the point we expected him to be at. After scoring 3 goals and 18 assists as a sophomore, an improvement was expected, but he is well off that pace. He did not register a point in this match.
In the USHL, Sioux Falls (10-7-1-1) defeated Des Moines 4-1 (7-7-4-0). Our boys were pointless in this one but not for lack of opportunities. Chris Pelosi had 4 SOG while Beckett Hendrickson was credited with 5 to lead the attack despite the lack of production. The chemistry between these two, already at a high level, continues to improve. I said it before and it’s worth repeating, “I wish they were going to the same NCAA school.”
On Thursday, Linkoping HC dropped to 8-6-6 on the season after a 4-3 shootout loss to Rogle BK, who improved to 7-8-4 in SHL action. I’ve spoken about Jonathan Myrenberg as a 20-year-old in Sweden’s top league and how he is gaining confidence and how well rounded his defensive game is. With an assist in this game, he has helpers in his last 3 games.
In the OHL, London improved to 14-7-0-1 with a 6-3 win over North Bay who dropped to 10-7-4-1. It was probably the quietest game I’ve seen from Jackson Edward that goes back to last season. He was barely noticeable throughout the night, but I don’t expect that to last. Chalk it up to a rare off night. Or was it?
On Friday night there was some good and some bad. In the NCAA, Boston College improved to 1-2-1 with a 6-1 beating of Notre Dame, who dropped to 7-5-2. Oskar Jellvik had a goal (7) and assist (6) to up his point streak to 3 games on 2 goals and 3 assists. But it was his Wayne Gretzky-esque pass from behind the net that was eye popping when he set up Andre Gasseau (5) for a goal.
U-Mass (9-3-1) defeated Harvard (1-2-3) by a 6-5 score on Friday. On the winning side, Dans Locmelis did not register a point, had 3 SOG and was 11 for 19 on the dot. On the losing end, Mason Langenbrunner finished with zeroes across the board including the much-hated plus/minus stat. Interaction with fans tells me that there are concerns over Locmelis’ production – the same way there was with Jellvik a season ago. My response now is the same as it was for Jellvik: don’t be. It’s a transition year for him. A year from now if the situation hasn’t changed, we can have the discussion.
Providence College fell to 8-4-2 after a 4-3 overtime loss to Arizona State who improved to 10-2-1. Philip Svedeback stopped 22 of 26 shots in the loss, his third consecutive loss and the longest since January of 2023 when he lost 5 straight games. There’s at least two goals from tonight I’m sure he would like to have back. Riley Duran was held off the scoresheet and continues to play on the second line after being dropped from the top line.
In the USHL, Sioux Falls got spanked by Lincoln 7-3. Things looked promising in the first period. Trailing 1-0 Hendrickson and Pelosi set up their linemate to even the tally. But Lincoln blew it wide open in the second period and led 5-1 when the frame was over.
In the OHL, I’m not sure what is happening with the London Knights losing 3 of their last 4 by a combined score of 20-8. Not supposed to happen to a team with elite level goaltending and defence. It was another rough night for Edward who finished with a minus 3 and was directly responsible for those 3 goals including the opener. With the score 2-0 and London being completely outplayed, Edward had the chance to change the momentum by dropping the gloves but chose not too.
On Saturday, Linkoping lost 4-2 to Orebro in SHL action. Despite not putting up any points, this was probably Myrenberg’s best offensive game of the season for the 20-year-old playing against men. He had 5 SOG and set up his teammates for more in 17:50 TOI. Really impressed by how he is developing this season.
In the NCAA, Cornell improved to 5-3-1 with a 2-1 victory over Boston University. Trailing 1-0 early in the third period, Ryan Walsh tallied his 4th of the season to even things up. Less then 5 minutes later, Cornell would score the winner. The goal ended a 3-game slide for Walsh who started the season on fire. On the losing side, Gallagher had zeroes across the board and is nowhere near providing the offence we’ve been accustomed to from the blueline from him.
In the OHL, the London Knights broke out in a big way with a 9-3 win over the Barrie Colts. After a lackluster first period in which the two teams were tied 1-1, London scored 7 in the second period and led 8-2 after the second frame. While he only had 1 assist in the game, Edward was a force at both ends. But his biggest impact came in the d-zone where he was credited with 6 hits in the second period and help keep Barrie at bay with just 5 SOG – they had 38 in the game. We need that for 60 minutes now.
On Sunday in NCAA action Boston College defeated Harvard 4-1. Jellvik and Gasseau assisted on the GWG almost halfway through the third period. With just under 3 minutes remaining Gasseau would help set up a PP marker to put the game away. For Harvard, Langenbrunner assisted on their lone goal, his first point of the season.
Providence College defeated Arizona State 2-1. Duran picked up the winner with his 5th of the season with just over 2 minutes remaining in the second. Duran was sprung loose on a partial break and showed plenty of patience before putting it between the pads. Svedeback did the rest holding Arizona off the board the rest of the way. He stopped 19 of 20 shots.
In the J20 Nationell, Frolunda defeated Oskarshamn 3-2 in a shootout. The win moves Frolunda into fifth spot as they look to become on of the top 5 teams in the Sodra division and join the top 5 teams in the Norra division to move on to Top-10 play. Kostadinski did not register a point in this game and Nassen missed his 4th straight game.

Here’s a look at the Providence Bruins leaders:
