The Boston Bruins announced on Sunday that Riley Duran has been signed to a two-year entry-level contract, commencing with the 2024-2025 season. This is the maximum duration permissible under the collective bargaining agreement. The agreement stipulates a base salary of $775,000, alongside a signing bonus of $92,500 at the NHL level, with the possibility of an additional $57,500 in performance bonuses. His earnings will amount to $80,000 at the AHL level.
Duran will finish the remainder of this season with Providence of the AHL on an ATO.
Duran was chosen by the Bruins as the 182nd pick in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft. The signing was anticipated, as Duran seemed prepared to advance to the next level throughout the entire season.
Standing at 6’1″, Duran is versatile, able to play both center and wing, and turned 22 in January. He’s sure to earn accolades from Bruins fans for his dynamic and relentless energy on the ice. His speed is notable, and he actively engages in forechecking and navigating tough areas, never hesitating to make contact. His shooting skills are impressive, whether executing a one-timer or a wrist shot. Additionally, he exhibits a comprehensive 200-foot game.”
If we manage our expectations, we will find satisfaction in Duran’s performance. Anticipate minimal offensive output. His optimal role is within the bottom six, where he can inject vigor, fortify defense, execute penalty kills, and contribute a little offensively.
