Boston Bruins Monday Morning Prospect Update Week Ending: October 27, 2024

Casper Nassen

On Friday night, Miami suffered their third consecutive loss, falling to Lindenwood with a score of 4-2. In these three games, they have been outscored 13-4. Nassen did not score any points in this match and finished with a plus/minus of zero while playing for 17:55, which is his longest ice time in seven games this season.

On Saturday, Miami won the rematch, with Nassen scoring the game-winning goal during a power play. This marked his third goal of the season, along with three assists in eight games. He ended the match with an even plus/minus rating and recorded one shot on goal. Nassen ranks third in team scoring, averaging 13 minutes and 24 seconds of ice time.

Dans Locmelis

U-Mass defeated Connecticut 4-3 in a shootout Friday, though the official record shows it as a tie. Locmelis did not earn any points but scored a standout goal in the shootout. He finished with a minus-1 rating, had 2 shots on goal, and won 8 out of 20 faceoffs while playing for 19 minutes and 20 seconds.

U-Mass struggled early on Saturday as Connecticut quickly a 3-0 lead. However, Locmelis played a crucial role in setting up both goals for U-Mass in an attempted comeback that fell short. Although he has not scored his first goal of the season yet, he has contributed 7 assists in 7 games. He ended the match with an even plus/minus, no shots on goal, and won 15 of 20 face-offs in 22 minutes and 10 seconds of ice time. He is currently tied for third in scoring on the team.

Oskar Jellvik, Andre Gasseau, Dean Letourneau

On Saturday, Boston College secured a 4-2 comeback win against Western Michigan. After trailing 2-0, the rally started with a superb wrist shot from Gasseau, marking his first goal of the season from the high slot. He also provided an assist on the goal that tied the game. His performance included 2 shots on goal, a plus-2 rating, and a face-off record of 1 win and 3 losses in 19:58 minutes of ice time. Jellvik did not contribute any points, registering 1 shot on goal and winning 6 out of 16 face-offs in 18:34 minutes on the ice. Jellvik has now gone two games without a point, a feat he achieved only three times last season. Letourneau sat out the game due to an injury.

Jake Schmaltz

Schmaltz scored in the game where North Dakota beat Boston University 7-2 Friday night. He contributed a goal and an assist in the first period, helping UND take a strong 5-0 lead and they never looked back. Schmaltz ended the game with a plus-2 rating, recorded 3 shots on goal, and won 13 out of 18 faceoffs in 14 minutes and 18 seconds of ice time centering the fourth line.

Saturday was a different story as North Dakota fell by a score of 4-3 to B U. Schmaltz was pointless in this one with 1 SOG and was 14 for 18 on the dot.

Beckett Hendrickson

Minnesota won against St. Thomas with a score of 7-1 on Friday, marking their third consecutive win and bringing their season record to 4-1-0. Hendrickson did not score any points and had 2 shots on goal in 14 minutes and 34 seconds of playing time. However, he maintained the high energy and strong puck pursuit that fans have come to expect from him early in the season.

Minnesota won decisively against St. Thomas again on Saturday, finishing with a score of 6-2. Hendrickson did not score and only had one shot on goal. His energy was lower than in recent games. In the second period, he got involved in a minor altercation, resulting in matching roughing penalties, which is a positive sign.

Ty Gallagher

Colorado College improved to a perfect 3-0-0 this season after narrowly beating Alaska-Anchorage 2-1 on Friday. This marked the first time Gallagher did not score this season; he finished the game with a minus-1 rating and recorded two shots on goal while playing just over 22 minutes.

They stayed perfect after defeating the Alaska-Anchorage team 2-0 on Saturday. Gallagher did not score any points, finishing with a plus-1 rating and one shot on goal while playing on the top defensive pair. The improvement in Gallagher compared to last season, when he was mainly the seventh defenseman, is striking.

Chris Pelosi, Elliott Groenewold

Quinnipiac defeated New Hampshire on Friday with a score of 8-2. Neither Pelosi nor Groenewold scored any points, but Pelosi had one shot on goal and Groenewold had two. Pelosi ended the game with a plus-2 rating and won 6 out of 16 face-offs. Groenewold finished with an even rating.

They dropped the rematch on Saturday by a score of 3-2. Pelosi was a plus-1 with 1 SOG and 7 for 13 on the dot in just 13:40 TOI. Groenewold, who is still looking for his first point was a minus-1 with 2 SOG and 20:04 TOI.

Ryan Walsh

Cornell’s season gets underway November 1.

Mason Langenbrunner

Harvard’s season begins November 1.

Jonathan Myrenberg

He is sidelined due to an injury and is expected to return in one to two weeks. Linkoping has been struggling without him and is currently not in the playoff race. It will be interesting to see how he impacts the team when he returns and gets back to playing shape.

Loke Johansson

Moncton improved to 9-2-1-0 in the QMJHL with a 5-1 victory over Drummondville. In a game where there wasn’t much defence, Johansson did not factor in the scoring, was a plus-1 and had 1 SOG in just over 21 minutes TOI.

Moncton continued to roll with a 5-2 win over Shawinigan on Saturday. Johansson did not factor in the scoring, was a minus-1 and had 2 SOG while playing on the second pair.

On Sunday they would travel to Victoriaville to finish their three games in three days, all on the road. You guessed it, Moncton took it 5-3. Midway through the first period, Johansson took a cross ice pass at the blueline, skated  to the left faceoff dot and fired home his first goal of the season.

Kristian Kostadinski, Jonathan Morello, Cole Spicer

Dubuque blanked the USNTDP 3-0 on Friday. Morello had a helper on the game’s opening goal. Kostadinski finished a plus-1 with 2 SOG while Morello was also a plus-1 but no shots on goal. Cole Spicer continues to be out with an injury.

Dubuque would once again defeat the USNTDP on Saturday, this time by a score of 3-2. Kostadinski assisted on the GWG and had 4 SOG from the blueline. Morello was not involved in the scoring and was a plus-1 with 1 SOG.

Philip Svedeback

Providence College defeated Vermont on Friday by a score of 3-2 in overtime. Svedeback made 21 saves out of 23 shots, earning his second victory of the season. Although he faced fewer shots than the opposing goalie, Svedeback remained focused, especially during the first period when he needed to be at his best. It was encouraging to see him regaining control of his movements and positioning.

Svedeback did not play in Saturday’s rematch which Providence won in a shootout.

Providence Bruins

Despite outshooting the Hershey Bears 39-28, the Bruins lost a heartbreaker to the two-time defending champions. The Bruins got out to an early lead but two goals just 4:59 apart in the second period was all Hershey needed on this night. Fabian Lysell was a force creating opportunities for his teammates all night but had just 2 SOG himself. Ian Mitchell and Riley Duran led the Bruins with 5 SOG. Tyler Pitlick scored his first goal since signing his AHL deal. Michael DiPietro was solid between the pipes but suffered his first loss of the season.

The two teams met again on Sunday and Hershey skated away with the same result. Vinni Lettieri scored his fourth of the season for the Bruins on a faceoff win by Georgi Merkulov. Brandon Bussi stopped 21 of 23 shots and is still looking for his first win of the season.

Here’s a look at the Providence Bruins leaders. You will notice a column called “Benchrates” This is provided by our friends at Benchrates.
