Boston Bruins Monday Morning Prospect Update Week Ending: December 1, 2024

Casper Nassen

Miami had a bye week last week.

Dans Locmelis

U-Mass defeated Army 3-1 on Friday and improved to 7-6-2 on the season. Locmelis had an assist on the opening goal, had 2 SOG and was a plus-1 with 19:59 TOI. With 15 points on the season, he is third on the team in scoring. He is currently on a 4-game point streak with 2 goals and 4 assists in those game.

Oskar Jellvik, Andre Gasseau, Dean Letourneau

Boston College improved to 10-3-0 following a 5-3 win over Dartmouth on Friday. Andre Gasseau continues to find the back of the net scoring his 7th of the season, albeit into an empty net. He had 5 SOG and was a plus-1 with 21:02 TOI. Jellvik, who assisted on the Gasseau goal had 1 SOG with 18:53 TOI. After beginning the season at center, he was moved to the left wing where he has been playing mostly with Gasseau. Dean Letourneau did not register any points and did not have a SOG with 10:12 TOI.

Jake Schmaltz

North Dakota dropped to 7-7-0 following a 2-1 loss to Bemidji State Friday despite ND outshooting them 35-22. Schmaltz did not register a point and was a plus-1 with 1 SOG and was 14 for 27 on the dot where he moved up to center the second line.

Schmaltz continues to produce whenever he is moved up in the lineup and Saturday was no different as he scored the game tying goal in the rematch, a 3-3 tie. Schmaltz centered the second line and had 21:08 TOI and was 13 for 24 on the dot to go along with his goal. He has 2 goals and 6 assists on the season after scoring just once with 10 assists all of last season.

Beckett Hendrickson

Minnesota is 12-2-1 following a 1-1 tie with Alaska Friday night. The long draught of 11 games without a point came to an end for Beckett Hendrickson as he scored the tying goal with just over 5 minutes remaining. His game is where it should be minus the production and he was rewarded with some top line shifts that paid off.

On Saturday, Minnesota beat the same Alaska team 5-2. Hendrickson set up the GWG, had 2 SOG himself and had an even plus/minus with 12:41 TOI while getting plenty of time on the top line. I’ve spoken plenty of times about how I like his energy but Hendrickson can produce at this level but often finds himself lower in the lineup because of Minnesota’s depth.

Ty Gallagher

Colorado College had a bye week.

Chris Pelosi, Elliott Groenewold

On Saturday, Quinnipiac and Cornell ended in a 3-3 tie (see below). Pelosi assisted on Quinnipiac’s third goal that came shorthanded. He had 3 SOG and was a plus-1 while winning just 3 of 11 faceoffs. Groenewold had 1 SOG and zeroes across the rest of the board. You can see why the Bruins moved up to select him in the 2024 Entry Draft, but he is still just 18 and there is work to be done. Pelosi is averaging 16:39 TOI while Groenewold is averaging 17:30.

Ryan Walsh

Cornell and Quinnipiac battled to a 3-3 tie on Saturday. Cornell jumped to a 2-0 lead in the first before Quinnipiac scored 3 unanswered in the second period. Cornell would tie it early in the third. Walsh assisted on Cornell’s 2-0 goal, a shorthanded marker. He did not register a SOG and was an even plus/minus and was 13 for 27 on the dot. Walsh leads the team in assists and points and is second in goals while averaging 18:08 TOI.

Mason Langenbrunner

Harvard dropped it’s 3rd in a row following a 5-2 loss to Notre Dame on Friday. And while Langenbrunner was still “the seventh defenceman”, he did play 14:57 in this game as Harvard tried spreading out the minutes. Langenbrunner did not register a point and had 1 SOG and was even in the plus/minus department.

On Saturday, Harvard defeated Merrimack 4-2. Langenbrunner had zeroes across the board with 15:41 TOI. He has seen a steady increase in his ice time from his season average of 11:13 over the last few games.

Jonathan Myrenberg

Still out with an injury.

Loke Johansson

On Saturday, Moncton needed overtime to get past Gatineau 4-3 in the QMJHL. Johansson did not register a point, was a minus-1 with 1 SOG in 21:12 TOI.

On Sunday, Moncton faced Cape Breton and came out on top by a score of 5-2. Johansson had just over 20 minutes TOI and had 4 SOG. He created some chances offensively but struggled at times defensively. He was on the ice for both Cape Breton goals, with one coming while down a man. You have to be satisfied with the way his development is coming along.

Kristian Kostadinski, Jonathan Morello, Cole Spicer

Dubuque sits atop the Eastern Conference standings and tied for the league lead with a 15-6-0-0 record following a 3-1 win over Muskegon on Friday. All three Bruins prospects were pointless in the game. Morello led the way with 2 SOG while Spicer had 1 and Kostadinski was held without a shot again.

However, Muskegon would come out on top in Saturday’s rematch by a score of 4-3. Spicer would assist on Dubuque’s third goal, but that’s as close as they would come as the comeback fell short. He finished with 1 SOG and an even plus/minus. Morello had 2 SOG but failed to register a point and he finished a minus-1. Kostadinski, who skated on the second pair on this night had 1 SOG and was a plus-1. He has been moved up and down the lineup almost on a nightly basis.

Philip Svedeback

Providence College improved to 9-3-2 following a 3-2 win over Clarkson in overtime on Friday. It was Providence’s third consecutive overtime game and 7th on the season. When 50% of your games are going to the extra frame, it puts a strain on your goaltending. At the same time, it prepares them for the pressures of big games and Svedeback is holding his own. He stopped 23 of 25 shots to improve to 7-2-1 on the season with 2.33 goals against average and .920 save percentage.

On Saturday they defeated Clarkson by a score of 2-1. Svedeback was the backup in that game.

The Providence Bruins seem to struggle with consistency, often moving forward only to fall back again. This trend continued on Wednesday when they lost 5-3 to the Utica Comets. Vinnie Lettieri scored early in the game, giving the Bruins their only lead. Fabian Lysell added a goal, his third of the season, thanks to assists from Frederic Brunet and Ryan Mast, who has been a pleasant surprise. Trevor Kuntar finally scored his first goal of the season with just three seconds left in the game and also assisted on Lettieri’s goal. Goaltender Brandon Bussi stopped 19 out of 23 shots but now has a record of 2-6-0-1 for the season as he continues to try and find his consistency.

On Saturday, Utica blanked Providence 3-0. There really isn’t much to say about this game. Michael DiPietro stopped 20 of 22 shots he faces. Lysell missed his last shift in the second period and did not come out for the third in what they called an upper body injury. Providence did outshoot Utica 33-23 but could not finish. There just wasn’t much in the way of positiveness in this game.

On Sunday, Providence faced Springfield and fell to 8-10-2-0 as Springfield defeated the Bruins 3-2. DiPietro, making his second consecutive start, stopped 23 of 26 shots. Patrick Brown scored for Providence as did Mason Millman – his first career AHL goal. Matthew Poitras had 2 assists in the game while Georgii Merkulov and Lettieri added singles.

Here’s a look at the Providence Bruins leaders. You will notice a column called “Benchrates” This is provided by our friends at Benchrates. Created by a retired hockey player, Benchrates has created an algorithm that computes values in real time. The value you see is the cap hit value they’ve earned this season to date. Give them a look and check out their site.
