Boston Bruins General Manager Don Sweeney announced Friday January 3, 2025 that the team has signed Mark Kastelic to a 3-year contract extension with an average annual value (AAV) of $1.567 million.
Kastelic was acquired in the offseason along with Joonas Korpisalo and a first-round pick that became Dean Letourneau from the Ottawa Senators in exchange for Linus Ullmark. Kastelic has become a fan favorite in Boston because of his relentless energy and his playing style, often referring to him as a prototypical Bruin.
Kastelic has 4 goals and 7 assists through 39 games this season. He is second in the NHL in hits and is tied for the league lead in penalty minutes. In 183 career games Kastelic has scored 18 goals and added 18 assists with 255 penalty minutes.
Kastelic spent 5 seasons with the Calgary Hitmen of the WHL and in 321 career games posted 126 goals and 109 assists while amassing 264 minutes in penalties. The Senators selected Kastelic with the 125th overall pick in the fifth round of the 2019 NHL Entry Draft.
Kastelic was set to become a restricted free agent with arbitration rights at the end of the season. Here’s a glimpse of the Bruins cap situation for next season based on a minimum $92.5 million Upper Limit. The cap could rise as high as $97 million.
