The IIHF announced on Friday that Zdeno Chara was one of six players inducted to the IIHF Hockey Hall of Fame.

Chara spent 14 years with the Bruins as captain. He led them to a Stanley Cup Championship in 2011 and won the Norris Trophy in 2009. He represented Slovakia at three Olympics and the World Championships on seven occasions.

Along with the Bruins, Chara also played for the Ottawa Senators, Washington Capitals and the New York Islanders on two occasions.

Chara signed with the Bruins as a free agent in the summer of 2006 and is largely credited with turning the culture of the club around. He is considered one of the great leaders of his time and the effects are still visible on the Bruins today.

Chara appeared in 1680 NHL games scoring 209 goals and 471 assists while compiling 2085 PIM. He also appeared in 200 career playoff games scoring 18 goals and 52 assists.

There is no question the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto will come calling next and that his number 33 will be hanging from the rafters at TD Garden.

Joining Chara are Henrik Lundgvist, Frans Nielson, David Vyborny, Kim Martin-Hasson, Vickey Sunohara and Kai Hietarinta in the builder’s category.
