Boston College returns to action January 10.
Beckett Hendrickson
Minnesota won yet again on Friday by a score of 6-2 over Mercyhurst and improved to 16-3-2 on the season. Hendrickson moved up from his third line regular duty to get some time on the top line. Unlike previous times he has moved up this season, Hendrickson failed to register a point on this night. He had 2 SOG and was a plus-1 with 16:15 TOI, up 11:59 from his season average.
Once again playing on the top line, Hendrickson scored his third of the season as Minnesota topped Mercyhurst, this time by a 5-2 score. With the puck in their zone, Hendrickson saw they were going to get possession and flew the zone. He had a clear breakaway from the blueline in and made no mistake. Hendrickson had 15:48 TOI.
Ty Gallagher
It wasn’t a great night for Colorado College as they lost the first game of a weekend set Friday to Augustana by a score of 5-1. Gallagher did not factor in on CC’s only goal and was a minus-2 on the night. He led all skaters with 23:14 TOI and was second among all skaters with 4 SOG. The defenceman still leads Colorado in scoring.
For the second time in two nights CC lost to Augustana, this time by a score of 3-2 on Saturday. Gallagher had an assist doing the hard work with two brilliant keep ins at the offensive zone. But it wasn’t enough. Gallagher finished with an even plus/minus and had 3 SOG himself with a game high 23:29 TOI.
Chris Pelosi, Elliott Groenewold
Quinnipiac defeated Harvard 3-2 in overtime on Wednesday. It was none other than Chris Pelosi with the game winner, again in typical Pelosi fashion. He drove to the net without the puck and pounced on a loose puck and jammed it under the defenceman who was sprawled out with the goaltender trying to protect the net. Pelosi had 3 SOG and was a plus-1 and 5 for 13 on the dot with 19:28 TOI. Groenewold did not have a point, was a plus-1 with 4 SOG and 20:19 TOI. We’ll get to Mason Langenbrunner of Harvard a little later.
On Saturday Quinnipiac lost 5-1 to Northeastern. Down 5-0, Pelosi scored his teams only goal with 1:16 remaining in the game. It was Pelosi’s 5th on the season and came on the powerplay. Pelosi picked up the puck in the left circle, spin and ripped a shot towards the net that bounced off a defender and in. He finished a minus-1 and had 2 SOG and was 7 for 12 on the dot with 17:16 TOI. Groenewold was a minus-1 with no SOG and for the most part played a solid defensive game and 18:24 TOI.
Ryan Walsh
As mentioned earlier, Cornell skated past UMass 4-2 at the Desert Hockey Classic on Friday. Walsh scored his 6th of the season to bring Cornell even at 1-1. While thinking defence, Walsh was just outside the UMass zone with the puck in deep. He entered the zone along the right wall, stopped a clearing attempt and skated inside the right circle a ripped a shot home for his team leading goal.
Mason Langenbrunner
As mentioned above, Harvard lost 3-2 in overtime to Quinnipiac on Wednesday. Mason Langenbrunner had a goal on 1 SOG and was a plus 1 with 15:09 TOI. Harvard is using him as a seventh defenceman this season averaging 11:51 TOI.
On Saturday Harvard was blown out 7-3 by Connecticut. No offence by Langenbrunner on this night and he finished with a zero plus/minus with one SOG in 13:57 TOI.
Jonathan Myrenberg
The good news is that Myrenberg is back on the ice in full practice but, is not in game shape yet. He’s missed 30 games of the 53-game schedule to date so far.
Loke Johansson
Moncton won their 6th consecutive game with a 5-1 win over Charlottetown had home on New Years Eve. Loke Johansson started off the Moncton goal scoring with a breakout pass out of his zone. One pass later, they found the back of the back of the net and Johansson had his first point in 6 games. He finished with a plus-2 and had 1 SOG.
On Friday, Moncton made it 7 in a row by blanking Halifax 3-0. Johansson had an assist on the GWG, although he really didn’t have to do too much and was a plus-1 with 2 SOG.
Make it 8 straight as Moncton defeated Halifax again Sunday by a score of 5-1. Johansson had zeroes straight across the board.
Kristian Kostadinski, Jonathan Morello, Cole Spicer
A New Years Eve battle saw Dubuque go into Waterloo and skate away with a 5-4 victory. Jonathan Morello had a goal on 3 SOG and was a plus-1. Cole Spicer had a pair of assists with 1 SOG and was also a plus-a. Kristian Kostadinski was held without a point or a SOG and finished a minus-1. Spicer, who has spent most of the season centering the top line centered the second line while Morello, who was named the second star was in his usually third line center position.
On Friday, Dubuque defeated Youngstown by a score of 4-1. Spicer did not play in this game. Morello did not have a point and led all skaters with 3 SOG. Kostadinski had an assist when he through the puck towards the net, had it blocked and went to a teammate for the goal.
Dubuque defeated Youngstown again Saturday by a score of 4-3. Cole Spicer did not play again. Kostadinski scored his second of the season and had 2 SOG with an even plus/minus. Morello was pointless with 1 SOG. Kostadinski was standing all alone in front of the opposition net, took a perfect pass and redirected it into the half empty cage. It was at the time, the game tying goal.
Sunday brought an end to a 4-game week as Dubuque beat Cedar Rapids 3-2. Kostadinski and Morello were both kept off the scoreboard. Spicer returned to play second line left wing and registered 2 assists.

Providence College returns to action January 7.

Providence Bruins
It turned into a somewhat nasty game on Saturday as Hershey needed a shootout to defeat Providence 4-3. Late hits, high hits and even a run or two at the goalies both ways in this game. Hershey got off to a 3-goal lead just under 16 minutes into the game. Patrick Brown would get a powerplay goal before the period would close out to give Providence some life. Vinni Lettieri and Fabian Lysell would draw the assists. Halfway through the second Providence would pull within one as Riley Tufte scored his 10th of the season from John Farinacci and Billy Sweezey. Lettieri would tie it with 1:33 remaining in the second with his 12th of the season. Georgii Merkulov and Jeffrey Viel had the helpers. There was no scoring in the third or overtime and it took 4 rounds in the shootout for the winner. Michael DiPietro stopped 31 of 34 shots and 3 of 4 in the shootout.
On Sunday, Max Jones gave Providence an early goal set up by Brown. That’s the only offence they could muster as Hershey won 5-1. Hershey outshot Providence 33-19. Brandon Bussi stopped 28 of 33 shots.
Here’s a look at the Providence Bruins leaders. You will notice a column called “Benchrates” This is provided by our friends at Benchrates. Created by a retired hockey player, Benchrates has created an algorithm that computes values in real time. The value you see is the cap hit value they’ve earned this season to date. Give them a look and check out their site.
