Michael DiPietro and Michael Callahan have been selected to the AHL All-Star Classic!
Casper Nassen
Miami returned to action on Friday and lost for the 11th consecutive game, this time by a score of 4-1 to Denver. Nassen did not factor in on Miami’s lone goal, did not have a SOG and was a minus-1. Things are not going well for Miami and Nassen.
The result was the same Saturday as Denver won 6-2. Nassen ended the 11-game personal draught with a powerplay goal, his 4th of the season.
Dans Locmelis
UMass blanked Northeastern 5-0 on Friday. Locmelis had a pair of assists with 2 SOG and was a plus-2 on the night. He went 9 for 23 on the dot and had 17:19 TOI centering the top line.
Roles were reversed on Saturday as Northeastern blanked UMass 3-0. Obviously Locmelis did not register a point. He had 3 SOG and was 50% at the dot with 19:53 TOI. The sophomore is third on the team in scoring with 19 points in 21 games.
Oskar Jellvik, Andre Gasseau, Dean Letourneau
It was a rare loss for BC on Friday as they fell to Merrimack 5-2. Jellvik scores the opening goal when he found open space in the left circle, got a rebound and ripped it home for his third of the season. Jellvik had 2 SOG in 17:27 TOI. Gasseau was held pointless with 4 SOG and 11 for 20 on the dot with 17:04 TOI. Letourneau was a minus-1 with 1 SOG and 8:20 TOI.
BC bounced back on Saturday and beat Merrimack 4-1. Gasseau led the way with 2 assists, 2 SOG and 8 for 18 on the dot with 17:52 TOI. Jellvik did not register a point and had 2 SOG with 17:58 TOI. Letourneau was a plus-1 with just 4:26 TOI.
Jake Schmaltz
North Dakota lost for the first time in 5 games as they fell 4-1 to Arizona State on Friday. Schmaltz did not register a point and had 4 SOG while going 9 for 12 on the dot in the loss.
They needed overtime but North Dakota rebounded Saturday with a 4-3 win. Schmaltz had the game’s opening goal, his 4th of the season and then assisted on the game tying goal to force overtime with 28 seconds remaining. He finished with 1 SOG and a plus-2 while going 9 for 20 on the dot with 17:25 TOI.
Beckett Hendrickson
Minnesota fell 5-1 to Ohio State on Friday. Hendrickson was back to his normal third line left wing position and did not factor in the scoring. He was a minus-1 with 10:44 TOI, the second lowest total among forwards.
It was a different game Saturday as Minnesota returned the favor to Ohio State with a 6-1 win. Beckett Hendrickson set up the GWG when he stole the puck in the neutral zone, went the other way and fed his teammate for the goal. Hendrickson finished a plus-1 with no SOG in 11:09 TOI.
Ty Gallagher
Colorado College lost their third in a row on Friday, this time by a score of 5-2 to Omaha. Down 2-0, CC won a faceoff in the offensive zone back to Gallagher who wristed it from the point and it got through to the back of the net for his fifth of the season.
CC is in a free fall losing Saturday by a score of 3-1 to Omaha on back-to-back nights. There were no points for Gallagher on this night and he had a game high 5 SOG and a game high 24:04 TOI. He is tied for the team lead with 14 points in 20 games and shots with 62, which is 15 more than his closest teammate. He is also averaging 2 minutes more TOI than his closest teammate.
Chris Pelosi, Elliott Groenewold
After falling behind 1-0, Quinnipiac scored 6 unanswered goals to defeat Stonehill on Monday in a non-conference game. Groenewold scored Quinnipiac’s fifth goal of the game after he took a pass just outside the Stonehill blueline, skated into the left faceoff circle and ripped home a shot into the top corner for his third of the season. Groenewold had 1 SOG and was a plus-1 in 18:21 TOI. Pelosi had a 3-game goal streak come to an end as he was held pointless in the matchup. Pelosi had 2 SOG and was 5 for 6 on the dot in 19:14 TOI.
On Friday, Groenewold scored his 4th of the season to open the scoring as Quinnipiac got past Princeton 4-2. But it wasn’t just his offence that was impressive. The way he thinks the game defensively is really beginning to stand out. He finished with a game high 6 SOG and was a plus-1 in 18:40 TOI. Pelosi did have a helper in this game and was 9 for 14 on the dot with 17 minutes TOI.
On Saturday Quinnipiac won the second half of their back-to-back 3-0. Both Pelosi and Groenewold did not fact in the scoring. Pelosi had 1 SOG and was 5 for 12 on the dot with 16:42 TOI. Groenewold did not register a shot on goal and had 21:27 TOI.
Ryan Walsh
Cornell and Sacred Heart battled to a 1-1 tie on Friday. Ryan Walsh did not register a point and was a minus-1 with 2 SOG. He went 8 for 17 on the dot and had 21:01 TOI.
On Saturday, Sacred Heart defeated Cornell 4-2. Walsh was in on both Cornell goals with a goal and an assist. He had 2 SOG and was a plus-1 with 18:46 TOI.
Mason Langenbrunner
Langenbrunner finally moved into the top 6 defenceman role after he upped his game recently. Langenbrunner earned his first assist of the season (to go with 3 goals) shortly after he helped Harvard kill off a 5-minute major with some hard work. Harvard went on to top Brown 3-1 in this game.
On Saturday Harvard got past Yale by that same 3-1 score. Langenbrunner moved up to the second pair on this night. He did not register a point and led all Harvard defencemen with 20:30 TOI.
Jonathan Myrenberg
Still working his way back into game shape.
Loke Johansson
Moncton continued to roll along on Thursday with a 4-1 victory over Gatineau in QMJHL action. Johansson did not register a point in what was Moncton’s ninth straight win. He finished a minus-1 with 1 SOG and 19:59 TOI.
The win streak came to an end Saturday as Rouyn-Noranda scored with 1:23 remaining to skate away with a 6-5 victory over Moncton. Johansson managed an assist, his tenth of the season. He was physical, stuck to his defensive strengths but did not generate and SOG, something he tends to do.
Moncton got back to their winning ways Sunday with a 5-2 win over Val-d’Or. Johansson set of the game’s opening goal when he sent a tippable shot from the left point on net for his third helper in 5 games this month.
Kristian Kostadinski, Jonathan Morello, Cole Spicer
Dubuque defeated Sioux City 4-3 on Saturday in their only game of the week. This one was interesting. Spicer, who had for the most part centered the top line was on the fourth line left wing. He generated 3 SOG and was a minus-1. I don’t know if he is still feeling the effects of his most recent injury. Morello, who moved up a line at times had two helpers to reach double digits in assists. Kostadinski’s only number was his 15 PIM. He received a 2, 5 and game misconduct for being the aggressor in a fight.
Philip Svedeback
Providence travelled across town on Tuesday to take on Brown in the Mayor’s Cup and came away with a 2-0 shutout victory and extending their win streak to eight games. Svedeback did not get the call in this one in a surprising move as the number 1 netminder was well rested and these are the games you want your top goalie playing. Maybe he was under the weather? It’s going around!

Providence Bruins
Vinnie Lettieri and Michael DiPietro led Providence to a 4-1 win over the Bridgeport Islanders in Friday. Lettieri had two goals and an assist while DiPietro stopped 34 of 35 shots for the win. Georgii Merkulov has a goal and assist while Fabian Lysell had two assists and Matthew Poitras added a single one.
On Saturday, Springfield stopped Providence 6-4. Brandon Bussi left the game 8 minutes in and had given up 2 goals on 6 shots. DiPietro came in and stopped 16 of 19. Lysell, Riley Duran, Patrick Brown and Brett Harrison had the goals for Providence. Merkulov had an assist to stay hot as did Mason Millman, Poitras and Riley Tufte with a pair.
Here’s a look at the Providence Bruins leaders. You will notice a column called “Benchrates” This is provided by our friends at Benchrates. Created by a retired hockey player, Benchrates has created an algorithm that computes values in real time. The value you see is the cap hit value they’ve earned this season to date. Give them a look and check out their site.

Dom,
Regarding Letourneau, pointless in 11 games….is the kid doing anything that is noticeable? Throwing the body? Has the coaching staff made any commentary on what they’re working on? Building strength? Skating?
The guy was a first round pick, and I get the jump he made wasn’t ideal, but there has to be an element of his game that’s showing through or at least a path for improvement, right?
