Casper Nassen
Miami lost for the 13th consecutive game Friday and the 16th time in their last 17 games after falling to Omaha by a score of 4-1 on Friday. Nassen scored his 5th of the season early to give Miami a 1-0 lead but that’s the end of the story. Nassen was a plus-1 with 1 SOG and 14:54 TOI. It was a bit of a lucky goal as the puck went off his leg and found twine. But in fairness to him, he did the right thing and went to the right place.
Another game, another loss for Miami to the same Omaha team, this time by a 3-1 score. Nassen was pointless in the rematch and had 2 SOG with 16:11 TOI.
Dans Locmelis
UMass dropped to .500 following a 3-2 loss to Merrimack on Friday. Locmelis did not have a point and was a plus-1 with 1 SOG while winning 17 of 22 faceoffs.
UMass got some revenge on Saturday taking the rematch by a score of 5-2. Locmelis managed a helper in this one with 1 SOG and finished a plus 1 with 16:28 TOI. He went 5 for 11 on the dot.
Oskar Jellvik, Andre Gasseau, Dean Letourneau
BC faced off against Mason Langenbrunner on Tuesday and came away with a 3-1 win. It was a tight game with the teams exchanging first period goals. BC would take the lead early in the second and the 2-1 score held until the final 1:19 of the third when Andre Gasseau set up the empty net goal. Gasseau finished with the lone assist, 1 SOG and was a plus-1 as well as 10 for 13 on the dot in 19:31 TOI. Jellvik did not factor in the scoring and had 2 SOG with 16:14 TOI. Letourneau had zeroes across the board and 4 for 5 on the dot with 7:16 TOI.
On Friday, BC defeated Philip Svedeback and Providence College 3-0. Jellvik scored his 4th of the season into an empty net, set up by Gasseau. The chemistry between the pair of prospects is high. The fact that they are defending a lead in the final minute with an extra attacker on the other sides speaks volumes in their ability to defend and the trust the coaching staff have in them to do so. Letourneau had one of his better games of the season and he saw increased ice time because of it to 10:34 TOI. Gasseau had 17:11 TOI with 4 SOG and Jellvik 18:13 TOI with 3 SOG. The story on Svedeback can be found below.
BC took the rematch on Saturday by a score of 4-1. Our prospects went pointless in the rematch. Jellvik finished with 2 SOG and an even plus/minus with 16:55 TOI. Gasseau was also even in the plus/minus department with 1 SOG and 16:47 TOI. Letourneau also had an even plus/minus with no SOG in 9:02 TOI.
Jake Schmaltz
North Dakota lost a heartbreaker to Western Michigan 3-2 in overtime on Friday. UND took a 2-1 lead early in the third only to have WM tie it 40 seconds later to force overtime and then win it 14 seconds into the extra frame. Schmaltz did not register a point, was a minus-1 and 10 for 14 on the draw with just 11:28 TOI.
Western Michigan would take the second game of the back-to-back on Saturday by a score of 5-1. Schmaltz did not factor in on ND’s only goal. He finished with 1 SOG and was 7 for 19 on the dot with 13:45 TOI.
Beckett Hendrickson
Minnesota defeated Notre Dame 5-2 on Friday. Hendrickson, who began the night on the fourth line had two helpers, including on the game winner when he picked up a puck behind the opposition net, came around for the wrap around and the rebound went to a teammate for the goal. On the second, he read the play behind the net perfectly, was first on the pack in the corner and a split second later it was out in front to a teammate for a perfect tic-tac-goal. He finished a plus-2 with 6 SOG in just 10:14 TOI.
On Saturday, Notre Dame won 4-3 in overtime. Hendrickson did not factor in the scoring in the loss. He managed 3 SOG and was an even plus/minus with 11:18 TOI.
Ty Gallagher
Colorado College snapped a 4-game losing streak beating Minnesota-Duluth decisively Friday by a score of 7-2. Gallagher had an assist on Colorado’s 4th goal of the game that came on the powerplay. What is clear is the CC’s PP runs through Gallagher. He is constantly in motion and the puck is always ending up on his stick.
The win streak ended at 1 with Minnesota-Duluth taking Saturday’s rematch 4-1. Gallagher did not factor in on CC’s lone goal and had 2 SOG. Gleb Veremyev, who the Bruins have expressed interest in as a free agent did score with a handful of NHL General Managers in attendance to get a look at him. Gallagher should have been credited with an assist on the goal.
Chris Pelosi, Elliott Groenewold
Quinnipiac skated past Colgate 6-3 on Friday. Pelosi had 1 assist and was a plus-1 with a whopping 7 SOG – a game high – in 18:25 TOI. He was also 11 for 13 on the dot. Groenewold also had an assist, was a plus-1 with no SOG in 21:50 TOI.
On Saturday, Cornell and Quinnipiac officially ended in a 2-2 tie although Cornell did win the shootout. Pelosi scored once with 2 SOG and was a plus 1 while going 5 for 13 on the dot with 23:17 TOI. Pelosi worked himself to a little open ice in the slot, received a pass and ripped a rocket upstairs for his 6th of the season. Groenewold was a minus-1 with 22:59 TOI.
Ryan Walsh
Walsh continued to add to his team leading goals, assists and points on Friday as he led Cornell to a 6-2 win over Princeton with a goal and 2 assists. Walsh tied the score after Princeton had taken an early lead with his 8th of the season as he picked up a loose puck at center, split the defense and went in all alone to score his 8th of the season. He then sets up the GWG by winning an O-zone draw, going to the net and getting his stick on the shot and a rebound deposited in the back of the net by a teammate.
As mentioned above, Cornell and Quinnipiac officially ended in a 2-2 tie on Saturday although Cornell did win the shootout. Walsh did not register a point, was a minus-1 with 5 SOG and was 9 for 21 on the dot in a team high 23:30 TOI.
Mason Langenbrunner
As mentioned earlier, Harvard lost to BC on Tuesday by a 3-1 score. Langenbrunner was once again on the second pair, had 3 SOG and had 20:05 TOI.
On Friday, Harvard defeated RPI by a score of 5-2. Kudos to Langenbrunner. He stayed positive all season as his role was diminished to seventh defenceman and has persevered. He’s been rewarded with a move up to the top-4 over the past couple weeks. On Friday, he had an assist and was a plus 3 with 19:32 TOI. Amazing what some confidence can do along with a strong work ethic.
Harvard dropped Saturday’s matchup with Union by a score of 4-1. Langenbrunner finished with an even plus/minus and had 2 SOG with 16:16 TOI.
Jonathan Myrenberg
Myrenberg finally got into action on Thursday after missing 33 games to start the season. I wish I could say he didn’t miss a beat, but that isn’t true. It was clear this was his first game while everyone else is halfway through the season. Myrenberg finished a minus-1 with 14:45 TOI.
Things were a little better Saturday as Myrenberg was moving better in Linkoping’s 5-2 win over third place Timra. Myrenberg did not factor in the scoring but he was effective in transitioning and jumping into the play. He had 2 SOG and a blocked shot with 17:12 TOI.
Loke Johansson
The Moncton Wildcats defeat the Charlottetown Islanders 5-2 on Thursday. Johansson earned an assist for the third consecutive game when he went back behind hi net to retrieve a puck and sent it off the glass to a teammate who went up ice and scored. The pass looked like it would clear the glass but upon a closer look, it was a perfect bank pass. Johansson finished a plus-1 with 2 SOG.
Johansson’s 3-game point streak came to an end Saturday but Moncton did defeat Quebec 3-2. Johansson finished a plus-1 with 1 SOG and 21:12 TOI.
On Sunday Moncton lost a tight one to Acadie-Bathurst by a score of 2-1. Johansson did not factor in on the lone Moncton goal and was a minus-1.
Kristian Kostadinski, Jonathan Morello, Cole Spicer
It did go to a shootout Friday in Youngstown but Dubuque dropped the game 5-4 to the Phantoms. Kostadinski did not register a point and was a minus-1 with 3 SOG. Both Morello and Spicer had an assist in the loss with Morello finishing a plus-1 with 2 SOG and Spicer a plus-2 with 3 SOG. Spicer was the only prospect with an attempt in the shootout which he missed.
Dubuque shut out Youngstown 4-0 on Saturday. None of the three Bruins prospects had an impact on the scoreboard.
Philip Svedeback
As mentioned earlier, Providence lost 3-0 to Boston College on Friday. No blame can be placed on Svedeback as he stopped 38 of 40 shots he faced while PC could only manage 24 SOG of their own.
They also dropped the rematch on Saturday by a score of 4-1. Svedeback stopped 20 of 24 shots he faced in the loss.

Providence Bruins
Providence skated past Syracuse on Wednesday by a score of 3-2 in a shootout. Georgii Merkulov and Tyler Pitlick potted goals with Pitlick’s coming with 3:24 remaining to force overtime. Jackson Edward assisted on the Merkulov goal and Merkulov won an offensive zone draw back to Edward who moved laterally and backwards along to blue line to give Merkulov a chance to get to the front of the net for a rebound goal. Jeffrey Viel and Patrick Brown assisted on the Pitlick goal. Pitlick and Riley Tufte scored in the shootout which went 5 rounds. Michael DiPietro stopped 37 of 39 shots in regulation and overtime and another 4 of 5 in the shootout for another stellar performance.
DiPietro got the start on Saturday again and stopped all 26 shots he faced for his third shutout of the season. Max Jones with a pair (7 & 8), Trevor Kuntar (2), John Farinacci (6) and Merkulov (10) had the goals for Providence. Brown led the way with 2 assists while Joey Abate, Riley Tufte, Pitlick and Edward had single. Fabian Lysell missed the game due to illness.
On Sunday it was Brandon Bussi to have a turn with the shut out as he stopped all 27 shots he faced, some in spectacular fashion. Viel with his 6th, Pitlick with his 10th and 11th and Harrison with his 3rd had the goals for Providence. Edward had an assist for the third consecutive game, Ian Mitchell with 2, Frederic Brunet, Tufte, Farinacci and Merkulov also had helpers.
Here’s a look at the Providence Bruins leaders. You will notice a column called “Benchrates” This is provided by our friends at Benchrates. Created by a retired hockey player, Benchrates has created an algorithm that computes values in real time. The value you see is the cap hit value they’ve earned this season to date. Give them a look and check out their site.
