Casper Nassen
Another game and another loss for Miami, this time a blowout to Western Michigan on Friday by a score of 8-3. Nassen did not register a point, was a minus-3 with 17:05 TOI.
It was a little closer on Saturday but Western Michigan still came out on top 2-0. Obviously, Nassen had no points. In fact, he had zeroes across the board with 17:16 TOI.
Dans Locmelis
UMass defeated Alaska on Friday in a non-conference matchup by a score of 4-2. Trailing 2-1, Locmelis thought he had the tying goal but it would be called back for goaltender interference. Later, he would win a puck battle below the goal line and would circle the net for the wrap around goal to even things up. He would end up winning a defensive zone draw with the opposition goalie pulled that was key to the empty net goal. He was a plus-2 with 3 SOG and 8 for 12 on the dot and 19:09 TOI.
UMass had an easier time Saturday against the same Alaska team winning 7-3. Locmelis scored his 5th of the season on the powerplay. Locmelis took a pass at the top of the right faceoff circle, turned towards the high slot and wristed in the goal. He finished with a goal and an assist, a plus-1 with 4 SOG and was 50% at the dot with 14:24 TOI.
Oskar Jellvik, Andre Gasseau, Dean Letourneau
Boston College took care of Boston University rather easily (on the score board) on Friday, coming away with a 6-2 win. Our three prospects however, did not factor in the scoring. Jellvik had 2 SOG and an even plus/minus with 18:22 TOI. Gasseau had 1 SOG and was a plus-1 and 6 for 11 on the dot with 16:32 TOI. Letourneau was a plus-1 with 1 SOG and 1 for 4 on the dot with 8:20 TOI.
It was a weekend sweep for BC as they blanked BU on Saturday 2-0. Once again, our prospects were blanked. Jellvik was a plus-1 with 1 SOG and 16:54 TOI. Gasseau was a plus-1 with 1 SOG and 18:24 TOI. Letourneau had 6:28 TOI.
Jake Schmaltz
Bye week
Beckett Hendrickson
Hendrickson had the opportunity to move up in the lineup on Friday. However, Michigan State walloped Minnesota 9-3. There was nothing pretty in this one for Minnesota. Hendrickson finished a minus-1, no SOG and played just 8:24 after receiving a high hit that was reviewed by the officials. Minnesota dropped to 19-6-2 on the season.
Hendrickson did not play in Saturday’s rematch with Michigan State obviously suffering from the effects of the hit Friday.
Ty Gallagher
Colorado College dropped another on Friday as they fell 4-1 to Arizona State. Wins are becoming rare for CC. Gallagher had an assist of Colorado’s lone goal that came in the third period when they were training 4-0. Gallagher began the breakout and then trailed the play up ice, pounced on a loose puck on the right wall and threw it at the net for a bang in goal.
It was a gutsy come from behind victory in the rematch Saturday as CC scored 4 in the third to erase a 4-1 deficit. Gallagher had an assist, a game high 6 SOG and a game high 21:56 TOI.
Chris Pelosi, Elliott Groenewold
Quinnipiac fell to 14-8-2 following a 2-1 loss to Connecticut on Friday. Pelosi had zeros straight across the board and was 4 for 13 on the dot. Groenewold was a minus-1 with 1 SOG in the loss.
On Saturday, Quinnipiac outscored Yale 6-2. Pelosi notched his 7th of the season with a short-handed goal midway through the first period. Pelosi intercepted a pass, slipped it through a defender’s skates, picked up the puck and went in all alone for the goal. He finished a plus-2 with 2 SOG and 10 for 12 on the dot with 17:27 TOI. Groenewold finished a minus-1 with 15:01 TOI.
Ryan Walsh
Walsh kept motoring along scoring his 9th goal of the season on Friday, the game winner, as Cornell defeated Harvard 4-1. Walsh won a center ice faceoff, separated himself from coverage and joined a 2-on-1 rush down the center of the ice. He received the pass and dropped to one knee and fired it home all in one motion. Walsh finished the game a plus-2 with 2 SOG and was 12 for 20 on the dot with 18:41 TOI.
On Saturday it was a lopsided affair but for Dartmouth who won 6-1 in a game that saw 134 minutes in penalties. Walsh was a game worst minus-4 with 2 SOG and 14 for 24 on the dot.
Mason Langenbrunner
As seen above, Harvard dropped a 4-1 decision to Cornell on Friday. Langenbrunner was a minus-2 with 20:07 TOI.
On Saturday Harvard defeated Colgate 4-1. Langenbrunner assisted on the GWG midway through the third period. With the faceoff in the opposition end, the puck came back to Langenbrunner at the right point who sent a shot with a purpose at the net for a deflection and a goal. He was a plus-2 with 2 SOG and a team high 21:07 TOI.
Jonathan Myrenberg
Linkoping lost a heartbreaker to Farjestad in overtime by a score of 4-3 on Thursday. Linkoping is treading water, tied for 12th spot in the SHL. The 13th and 14th place teams take part in a playout to see who gets relegated. Myrenberg is looking for his first point of the season and playing just his third game. He was a plus-1 in this game with just 13:51 TOI.
It was another heartbreaking loss for Linkoping who dropped a 4-3 decision to Leksand in a shootout. Even with their struggles, they remain just 2 points out of a playoff spot. Myrenberg is still looking for his first point of the season. He managed 1 SOG in 15:27 TOI in the loss.
Loke Johansson
Moncton defeated Acadie-Bathurst 7-1 on Friday. Johansson set up the GWG when the puck found him at the left point, he moved laterally for a step or two and then sent in a shot with a purpose that was deflected in. He finished the game with a plus-3 and 2 SOG.
Moncton could not get past Rimouski on Saturday as the Oceanic took it 5-3. Johansson did not register a point and was an even plus/minus with 1 SOG.
Kristian Kostadinski, Jonathan Morello, Cole Spicer
Dubuque lost a Thursday night matchup to the Green Bay Gamblers by a score of 4-2. The three prospects failed to register a point on this night. Kostadinski finished with an even plus/minus and 1 SOG while Spicer and Morello finished a minus-1. Morello had 4 SOG while Spicer had 2. I have to say I am disappointed in the trio, but not so much Kostadinski. Morello and Spicer are well below the offensive output they should be producing.
On Friday Dubuque squeezed past Sioux Falls 3-2. Kostadinski and Spicer were pointless in the win. Morello scored a beauty as he moved between three defenders unchecked and went in all alone to undress the goaltender for his 4th goal of the season.
Philip Svedeback
It officially goes down as a 3-3 tie between Providence College and UMass-Lowell on Friday although UMass took the shootout. Svedeback stopped 22 of 25 shots he faced and then 2 of 3 in the shootout.
Svedeback did not play in Saturday’s 1-0 loss.

Providence Bruins
Make it three consecutive shutouts for Providence and the second by Michael DiPietro as he stopped all 29 shots he faced in a 3-0 win over Rochester on Friday. Georgii Merkulov skated down the slot, went below the goal line and fed it back in front to Tyler Pitlick who banged home his 12th of the season. John Farinacci got the secondary helper. Then, Merkulov won an offensive zone faceoff to Fabian Lysell who took it to the slot and wristed a shot for his 7th of the season. Lysell would add an empty net goal to seal the victory.
The P-Bruins needed a shootout but they cam out victorious on Saturday with a 4-3 win over Springfield. Brandon Bussi stopped 33 of 36 shots and then all three he faced in the shootout for the win. Merkulov led the offence with a goal and 2 assists. Frederic Brunet and Ian Mitchell scored the other goals while Lysell had a pair of assists.
On Sunday, the Laval Rockets needed overtime to defeat Providence 3-2. DiPietro stopped 28 of 31 shots he faced. Riley Duran and Joey Abate had the goals for Providence. Trevor Kuntar, Jaxon Nelson, Mitchell and Farinacci had assists.
Here’s a look at the Providence Bruins leaders. You will notice a column called “Benchrates” This is provided by our friends at Benchrates.
