Boston Bruins Monday Morning Prospect Update Week Ending: February 16, 2025

Casper Nassen

For a team that hasn’t won a hockey game since the opening month of the season, having to face Ty Gallagher and Colorado College on back-to-back nights was not an easy task. It started off poorly as CC took the opener on Friday night 6-1 and dropping Miami’s record to 3-22-2 on the season. Casper Nassen did not register a point but was Miami’s most dangerous player with a game high 5 shots on goal. If you take out defenceman Michael Quinn, that’s as many shots on target as any three Miami forwards combined. More on Gallagher below.

Down 3 goals in the third to Colorado College on Saturday, Miami battled back to force overtime, but lost in the extra frame 5-4. Nassen went pointless and had 1 SOG after being demoted to the third line.

Dans Locmelis

UMass improved to 16-22-2 with a 3-2 upset win over Boston College. Locmelis did not factor in the scoring for UMass. He had 1 SOG and was 9 for 19 on the dot with 18:30 TOI.

UMass wasn’t as lucky on Saturday as BC took the rematch 4-1. Locmelis was pointless and finished a minus=1 with 3 SOG and 6 for 13 on the dot with 18:06 TOI.

Oskar Jellvik, Andre Gasseau, Dean Letourneau

Boston College lost in the Beanpot finale to Boston University on Monday by a score of 4-1. The loss came after 9 consecutive wins including two over B U by a combined score of 8-2. B C actually dominated territory in the first period and led 1-0 on a goal 6 minutes into the contest. Andre Gasseau had the secondary assist on the goal. He finished a minus-1 with 4 SOG and just 4 for 14 on the dot with 19:03 TOI. Dean Letourneau was also a minus-1 with 1 SOG and 12:38 TOI. Oskar Jellvik missed his second consecutive game after leaving the Beanpot opener early with an injury.

As mentioned above, Boston College lost to UMass on Friday and dropping their record to 21-6-1. Oskar Jellvik remained sidelined with an injury. Andre Gasseau had an assist and was a minus-1 with 6 SOG and was 11 for 22 on the dot with 21:15 TOI. Dean Letourneau, who saw some time on the right wing in this game was pointless and went 4 for 7 on the dot with 8:42 TOI.

The rematch on Saturday saw BC take it 4-1. Jellvik once again sat out. Gasseau had the GWG, was a plus-2 and went 5 for 8 on the dot with 19:28 TOI. Gasseau found open ice, snuck down to the right post undetected and the puck found him for the easy tap in for his 10th goal of the season.  Letourneau was pointless with 1 SOG and 7:20 TOI.

Jake Schmaltz

North Dakota dropped to 14-12-2 on the season following a 4-0 loss to Denver. Schmaltz continued to see time on the left wing but was on the third line. Obviously, he did not register a point in this game and he finished a minus-2 while going 5 for 12 on the dot.

North Dakota bounced back for a 3-1 win over Denver on Saturday. In a game that saw 11 roughing penalties and misconducts handed out at the 10-minute mark of the third period, it was: exciting? Schmaltz did not register a point for the 8th consecutive game. He had 3 SOG and 7 for 21 at the dot with 18:27 TOI.

Beckett Hendrickson

Minnesota fell to 21-7-3 following a 3-2 overtime loss to Michigan State. Off of an offensive zone draw, Hendrickson headed to the net and recognized quickly the play was heading behind the net. He beat everyone to the puck and fed it out front while falling to set up the game’s opening goal. He finished a plus-1 with 1 SOG and just 7:58 TOI playing on the fourth line.

Officially, it was a 2-2 tie in the rematch Saturday however, Michigan did win the shootout. Hendrickson did not register a point and had 1 SOG.

Ty Gallagher

As mentioned earlier, Colorado College defeated Casper Nassen and Miami (Ohio) 6-1 on Friday. Gallagher had two assists, was a plus-3 and had 4 SOG. Gallagher set up the GWG when he entered the o-zone late, moved to the right circle and tried to center a pass to a teammate in the slot. Instead, it went off a defenders stick and on net off the goaltender’s paddle. As it rode up, it was banged into the net. He then set up the insurance goal as he broke up a play in the neutral zone and transitioned immediately to offence.

As mentioned earlier, CC needed overtime to get past Miami in the rematch 5-4. Gallagher did not register a point and was an even plus/minus with 4 SOG.

Chris Pelosi, Elliott Groenewold

Quinnipiac easily took care of business on Friday with a 7-2 win over Union to improve to 18-9-2 on the season. Elliott Groenewold did not factor in the scoring. He had 2 SOG with 4 PIM with 17:07 TOI. Chris Pelosi however had a goal and 2 assists to remain red hot. He had 3 SOG and was 6 for 11 on the dot with 14:43 TOI, however, he was a minus-2. On the game’s opening goal, Pelosi took a pass at the top of the right circle and one-timed a shot for a deflection. On the GWG, it was almost identical to the opening goal as he received a pass on the right faceoff dot and wired a one-timer shot/pass for a deflection that found the back of the net. Pelosi scored Quinnipiac’s fifth goal when he picked up a loose puck in the high slot and riffled home a wrister high blocker for his 10th goal of the season.

Quinnipiac defeated RPI 6-2 on Saturday. Pelosi was at it again scoring the insurance goal for Quinnipiac as he showed his speed when he picked up the puck at his own blueline and flew past two defenders to go in all alone and score his 11th of the season.

Ryan Walsh

Cornell blew past Brown on Friday by a score of 6-1 led by the Bruins very own Ryan Walsh who snapped a mini pointless streak with 2 goals and an assist. He finished a plus-3 with 3 SOG and was 15 for 22 on the dot with 18:08 TOI. Walsh scored with a wicked wrist hot from the right faceoff dot. Later in the period he would score the insurance goal as he simply beat his man to the front of the net, took a pass and deposited it for his 11th goal of the season.

Walsh was back at it again on Saturday scoring twice and adding an assist as Cornell defeated Yale 5-3. Walsh won two battles along the wall and on the second battle, took the pack, circled to the high slot and fired home a wrister for a 1-0 lead. He then set up the next goal on the powerplay to put Cornell up 2-0. He closed it out scoring the insurance goal with under 9 minutes remaining. Walsh finished a plus-2 with 4 SOG and 20 for 24 on the dot with 20:40 TOI.

Mason Langenbrunner

What a night it was for Harvard and Mason Langenbrunner on Monday as they defeated Northeastern 4-3 to take third place at the 2025 Beanpot. Langenbrunner had two goals, including the goal that put Harvard up to stay and the eventual game winner. Both came on the powerplay and both from almost the identical spot. The first was a snap shot that beat the goaltender high on the glove side while the second was a quick released snap shot right through the 5-hole.

Harvard skated past St Lawrence on Friday by a score of 6-2. Langenbrunner did not have a point, was a plus-1 with 2 SOG and 20:53 TOI to lead all skaters. You couldn’t say that earlier in the season.

On Saturday, Harvard was spanked 6-0 by Clarkson. Langenbrunner was a minus-2 with 1 SOG and 19:59 TOI.

Jonathan Myrenberg

Linkoping got back into the action on Tuesday and fell to Lulea by a score of 5-2. The loss kept Linkoping in 13th spot and playing in the relegation round for demotion next season, 3 points back of Modo with 11 games remaining. Myrenberg did not register a point and had 2 SOG with 13:31 TOI.

It took overtime but Linkoping skated past Leksand 3-2. However, they remained in 13th place in the SHL standing and looking at the relegation round with just 10 games remaining. Myrenberg did not register a point and is still looking for that elusive first point. He has 1 SOG with a block and 13:38 TOI.

Linkoping shocked Swedish hockey fans on Saturday as the beat Brynas, the top team in the SHL, by a score of 4-2. That moved them out of the relegation round and 6 points out of a playoff spot with 9 games remaining. Not impossible. Remember the SHL uses a 3-2-1-point system. For Myrenberg, he was a minus-1 in this game with 1 SOG, 1 blocked shot and 1 het with 13:15 TOI.

Loke Johansson

Moncton got past Shawinigan 5-4 in a shootout on Thursday. Johansson did not register a point and finished with an even plus/minus with 1 SOG.

On Saturday, Moncton defeated Halifax by a score of 3-1. Johansson did not register a point and had 3 SOG.

Kristian Kostadinski, Jonathan Morello, Cole Spicer

Dubuque lost 3-2 to Cedar Rapids on Friday, their second consecutive loss. Kostadinski and Morello were both pointless in the match while Spicer remained hot with an assist.

Dubuque got past Des Moines on Saturday led by Cole Spicer, who had 2 goals including the overtime winner. His first goal brought Dubuque even at 2-2 when he went to battle on a 50-50 puck behind the opposition net, escaped and eluded everyone to find himself all alone for an easy tap in goal.  Spicer then won it in overtime with a perfectly placed one-timer from the right circle and was named the game’s first star. Spicer had 4 SOG and was a plus-1. Kostadinski had zeroes straight across the board and Morello had 2 SOG.

Things got off great for Dubuque Sunday afternoon in a 4-3 victory over Cedar Rapids. Jonathan Morello ended a 7-game pointless streak by scoring the opening goal when he won an offensive zone draw, beat his man to the front of the net and pounced on a loose puck in the slot and fired home a wrister. By the end of the second period, Dubuque was up 3-1 and were looking to be in control. Cedar Rapids would tie the game at 3-3 6:38 into the third period. With just under 4 minutes remaining, it was Morello again with the game winner as he took a pass in the slot where he had slipped into open ice and wristed home the winner. Kostadinski was pointless with 2 SOG while Spicer was pointless with 5 SOG.

Philip Svedeback

Providence College defeated Boston University 6-3 on Friday thanks in part to a 30 save performance by Philip Svedeback.

On Saturday, BU blanked PC 3-0. Svedeback started again and stopped 20 of 23 shots he faced. I’m not saying Svedeback was bad in this game, but I just haven’t liked him in back-to-back situations. He’s not made to carry the load.

Providence Bruins

Providence took care of business Friday as they defeated Utica 5-1 behind a 26 save performance from Michael DiPietro. Georgii Merkulov opened the scoring just over a minute into the game. Vinni Lettieri sent a pass out front to John Farinacci who directed a beautiful pass through his legs to Merkulov. Patrick Brown found Mason Millman coming down the slot who ripped a perfect snap shot in for the GWG. Riley Duran scored his first of two goals as he fired a shot from the left faceoff circle that the goaltender stopped, but it went up and over him to find the back of the net. Tyler Pitlick scored just seconds later as he took a breakaway pass from Jeffrey Viel. Duran scored his second of the game into an empty net.

Led by Brandon Bussi who stopped all 27 shots he faced for his 4th shutout of the season, Providence blanked Bridgeport 5-0 on Saturday. After a scoreless first period, Millman scored with a slap shot from the point to put Providence up. Pitlick and Riley Tufte had the assists. Less than a minute later, Matthew Poitras who is in Providence to get playing time while the 4 Nations is going on scored from the slot with a wrister to the top left corner. Ryan Mast and Fabian Lysell, who missed Friday’s game had the assists. Less than 3 minutes into the third Farinacci found Lysell at the post, fed him a pass and Lysell tucked it home. Moments later it was Farinacci once again finding Tufte at the post where he jammed the puck in for a 4-0 lead. Frederic Brunet had the other assist. Brown closed out the scoring with a wrister from the top of the slot.

The Bruins could not make it three for three on Sunday as they fell to Bridgeport 4-2. After falling behind 1-0. Farinacci scored his 7th of the season from Tufte to even it up. Just 53 seconds later, Jeffrey Viel would score his 7th of the season Brown and Billy Sweezey to take a 2-1 lead. Bridgeport would even it up late in the second period. Lysell would have a chance to put Providence ahead 5:33 into the third on a penalty shot but failed to score. With 5:13 remaining, Bridgeport would take the lead and then pot an ENG with 54 seconds remaining to seal the victory. DiPietro stopped 25 of 28 shots in the loss.

Here’s a look at the Providence Bruins leaders. You will notice a column called “Benchrates” This is provided by our friends at Benchrates. Created by a retired hockey player, Benchrates has created an algorithm that computes values in real time. The value you see is the cap hit value they’ve earned this season to date. Give them a look and check out their site.
