Casper Nassen
Things are not going well for Miami as they suffered their fifth consecutive loss on Friday, this time to Minnesota-Duluth, by a score of 5-0. Nassen obviously finished with zero points, was a minus-2 and had 1 SOG with 17:14 TOI.
Just when you think things could not get any worse, the two teams met again Saturday and Minnesota-Duluth spanked Miami 7-2. Again, Nassen finished with no points and was a minus-1 with 1 SOG.
Dans Locmelis
U-Mass lost a squeaker to Providence College on Thursday by a score of 2-1. Locmelis did not register a point in 21:17 TOI and was a plus-1 with 3 SOG while winning 7 of 16 faceoffs. Locmelis is pointless in his last 3 games, all losses for U-Mass with one coming in a shootout.
The two teams faced each other again on Saturday, and this time UMass secured a 5-1 victory. Locmelis contributed to the win with one goal and one assist, ending the game with a plus-2 rating. He had three shots on goal and won 11 out of 21 face-offs, playing for 18 minutes and 19 seconds.
Oskar Jellvik, Andre Gasseau, Dean Letourneau
Connecticut narrowly defeated Boston College 5-4 on Friday, marking only Boston College’s second loss this season. Oskar Jellvik returned from his injury, contributing one assist in 15:02 TOI. Andre Gasseau scored his fifth goal of the season, recorded three shots on goal, and won 50% of his faceoffs while playing 18 minutes and 46 seconds. Letourneau, who had just 8:39 TOI, finished with a plus-1 rating. He played on the right-wing multiple times alongside Jellvik, who mainly started the season as a center but shifted to the left wing during the game.
Jake Schmaltz
North Dakota dropped to .500 after falling to Undefeated Denver by a score of 5-2 on Friday. Schmaltz did not factor in the scoring and had 1 SOG and was 9 for 16 on the dot. Schmaltz was back centering the fourth line after being moved up to third line duties for a few games.
Denver would win the rematch on Saturday by a score of 3-2. Schmaltz as pointless in 19:10 TOI with 2 SOG and 12 for 20 on the faceoff dot.
Beckett Hendrickson
Minnesota State improved to 10-1-0 with Thursday’s 5-3 victory over Bemidji State. For Beckett Hendrickson, his offensive struggles continued as he was a minus-1 in 9:41 TOI. He was the only Minnesota forward without a shot on goal. I am still liking his work ethic.
The two teams squared off again Saturday with Bemidji taking it by a score of 3-1. Hendrickson had zeroes across the board with 12:49 TOI. While I continue to like his work ethic and battle, I would like to see some production from him. He is on pace for 4 goals and 4 assists on the season, well below where I had projected him.
Ty Gallagher
It took overtime but Colorado College lost their first game of the season by a score of 3-2 to Western Michigan on Friday. Gallagher continued to add to his production with an assist while also leading the team with 3 SOG.
The rematch between the two power houses took place Saturday and though officially a tie, Colorado took the shootout in the 1-1 game. Gallagher continued his fine play and had an assist on 3 SOG. Just 10 games into the season, he is almost halfway to his career high in points from 2 seasons ago and is proving that Boston University may have just been wrong about him last season.
Chris Pelosi, Elliott Groenewold
Quinnipiac ended a 2-game skid by beating winless Brown 3-2 on Friday. Pelosi ended a 5-game pointless slide with an assist. He had 3 SOG and was 9-17 on the dot but was a minus-1 with a team high 21:29 TOI. Groenewold scored the game winner late in the third for the victory. He had 4 SOG and was a plus-1 with 19:36 TOI.
On Saturday they made it two-for two with a 4-1 win over Yale and moved back to .500. Pelosi was pointless in 17:22 TOI and had 1 SOG while going 30% on the dot. Groenewold was also pointless and was a plus-3 but saw his ice time drop to 15:57, his lowest of the season.
Ryan Walsh
Cornell suffered their first regulation loss of the season against Dartmouth on Friday, by a final score of 4-3, even though Cornell carried most of the play. Walsh registered 2 shots on goal and won 13 out of 21 faceoffs. His 3-game point streak also came to an end.
On Saturday, Cornell and Harvard officially battled to a 2-2 tie although Cornell took the shootout. Walsh scored his third goal of the season with 6:43 remaining to force overtime. Walsh did not get an opportunity in the shootout.
Mason Langenbrunner
Harvard’s record fell to .500 after losing 4-2 to Colgate on Friday. Langenbrunner scored his first goal of the season, ended the game at plus-1, and recorded two shots on goal in 13:27 TOI, while still playing as the seventh defenseman. He did not score last season and had not found the back of the net since his freshman year on January 20, 2023, which was his only other goal in the NCAA.
As you read above, Harvard and Cornell battled to a 2-2 tie on Saturday. Langenbrunner scored his second of the season, in consecutive games to put Harvard up 2-1 before Walsh tied it and forced overtime. Langenbrunner played just 9:46 as the seventh defenceman and was a plus-1 with 2 SOG. With Langenbrunner, I do not think this is the same situation as Ty Gallagher.
Jonathan Myrenberg
Is still out with an injury.
Loke Johansson
The Moncton Wildcats suffered just their third regulation loss of the season on Thursday by a score of 6-2 to St John Sea Dogs. Although he finished just a minus-1, it wasn’t Johansson’s best game. He seemed out of sync at times and managed just 1 SOG and 2 stick infractions.
Moncton got back into the win column on Saturday with a 5-1 victory over Charlottetown. Johansson had an assist and was a plus-2 with 1 SOG in what was a penalty filled affair.
Kristian Kostadinski, Jonathan Morello, Cole Spicer
Thursday was commitment day for the Dubuque Fighting Saints and the worst kept secret was finally made official as Kostadinski signed hi Letter of Intent to play at Boston College for the 2025-2026 season.
Dubuque got back on the winning track by thrashing Des Moines 7-2 on Friday. Despite the offensive onslaught, both Kostadinski and Morello were held off the scoresheet.
Cole Spicer made his return Saturday after missing 16 games as Dubuque defeated Des Moines 4-3 in overtime. Spicer centered the top line and did not register a point and was a plus-1 as he eased back into action. Kostadinski also did not register a point and was assessed a penalty for a hit from behind along with a misconduct very late in the first period. Morello continued to struggle offensively and was a plus-1 with 1 SOG. His two-way game is very evident.
Philip Svedeback
As mentioned at the top, Providence College defeated U-Mass 2-1 on Thursday to improve to 7-1-2 on the season. Svedeback made the saves he needed to make and then some as he stopped 25 of 26 shots to improve his record to 5-1-1.
If you asked me whether I thought Svedeback was returning to the form of 2 seasons ago I would say yes. It was evident Friday as Providence defeated U-mass 2-1. He stopped 25 of 26 shots with several being of the tough variety. He is in much more control of his movements and ability to find pucks quickly.

Providence suffered a heartbreaking loss to Cleveland on Friday by a score of 4-3, which took overtime. Michael DiPietro stopped 29 of 33 shots he faced for the loss. You can’t blame him for the overtime goal as a brutal giveaway that led to a 2 on 1 was not on him. Frederic Brunet scored his first of the season while Jackson Edward recorded his first professional point – an assist (and also his first professional roughing penalty). Marc McLaughlin had a goal and an assist as did Riley Duran, who is really picking up his game. Matthew Poitras looked very good in his first game but did not hit the score sheet.
On Saturday, the Bruins lost their second consecutive game, this time 4-2 to Hartford. Vinni Lettieri scored his 8th of the season with Poitras picking up his first AHL point with an assist on the goal. Lettieri also assisted on Marc McLaughlin’s 4th of the season. Brandon Bussi lost for the fifth time in 6 games and has a 4.00 GAA and .857 SV%.
Just when you thought the team was gaining some traction by winning three straight, they finished the weekend by losing three straight following Sunday’s 4-3 overtime loss to Cleveland. McLaughlin scored his 5th of the season and has a 5-game goal scoring streak going. Perhaps motivated by the Georgii Merkulov call-up, Fabian Lysell played his best game of the season with 2 assists and creating offence time and time again. DiPietro stopped 29 of 33 shots faced and did his part as the Bruins could only muster 23 shots. Tyler Pitlick had a goal and an assist and is looking like a good addition by Evan Gold.
Here’s a look at the Providence Bruins leaders. You will notice a column called “Benchrates” This is provided by our friends at Benchrates. Created by a retired hockey player, Benchrates has created an algorithm that computes values in real time. The value you see is the cap hit value they’ve earned this season to date. Give them a look and check out their site.
