The Boston Bruins are retiring Patrice Bergeron’s number 37. Nothing else needs to be said.
The Bruins traded disgruntled prospect Andre Gasseau and the 120th pick for the 2026 draft to San Jose for the 104th pick and 157th pick. The Bruins move up 16 picks in the fourth round and gain a fifth-round pick which they lacked after trading it to Colorado in the Charlie Coyle deal.
On Tuesday, the Bruins unveiled their preliminary roster for the 2026 Development Camp. Twenty‑one players are currently slated to attend, with the club’s 2026 draft class expected to join them once they make their selections. Here’s the early look at who’s heading to camp:

It’s the end of an era in Canada. Since 1952, Hockey Night in Canada has been a Saturday night institution, the country’s signature broadcast for NHL action. But with the new Rogers Media deal set to begin for the 2026‑27 season, the long‑running partnership is coming to a close. In a joint statement, the two broadcasters acknowledged they’re heading in different directions, officially closing the book on one of the most iconic runs in sports television.
Perhaps the most surprising omission from the list is 2025 sixth‑round pick Kirill Yemelyanov, who was outstanding during Loko Yaroslavl’s run through the MHL playoffs. On the way to the championship, he delivered the cup‑clinching goal and led the postseason in game‑winners (4), goals (10), and plus‑minus (10). Another somewhat surprising absentee is Ryan Walsh.

On to the rumors from the week, with some contradictions once again.
Elliotte Friedman on X: At draft combine, Boston GM Don Sweeney told @globejimmcbride that he’d likely find a trade partner for Andre Gasseau — taken 213th in 2021, but en route to free agency this summer. We’ll see where it goes, but possibility San Jose gets him and signs him.
Pierre LeBrun from The Athletic: In a market starved for centers, the Bruins are listening on Pavel Zacha, which is an intriguing name to say the least. There’s a big difference between listening and wanting to move him, though.
LeBrun went on to say that he was told that Zacha submitted his 8-team no trade list on April 1.
Frank Seravalli on Frankly Hockey: It’s clear to me that they’re [Bruins] trying to get a difference-maker. They want to land one of these big dogs that’s out there.
More from Seravalli: Two of the names that popped up in conversations that I had were Mason Lohrei and Sean Kuraly.
Vincent Mercogliano from The Athletic: The Pittsburgh native has publicly stated his desire to remain near the East Coast. That makes it unlikely for teams such as the Kings and Mammoth — both of whom checked in on Vincent Trocheck during the 2025-26 season.
Vincent Mercogliano on Flying V: We’ve talked about Minnesota, Carolina, Boston, Pittsburgh, Detroit [re Trocheck] although that’s complicated now.
Darren Dreger via X: Sources say Vincent Trocheck has hired Pat Brisson and CAA to represent him moving forward. Trocheck was a target of trade speculation heading into the Deadline, so this change will fuel more of that in the days ahead. Lots of teams interested.
Chris Johnston on The Chris Johnston Show: I don’t think this is nearly as untradeable of a contract [Darnell Nurse] as it’s been portrayed publicly. There is certainly a way they can move this deal perhaps without even eating money. He has a 6-million-dollar bonus due this summer, so there could be a scenario where he’s traded after the bonus is paid.
Dave Pagnotta on Hello Hockey: I know that Pittsburgh and Edmonton have gone back and forth already on some things [Darnell Nurse], or at least talked about it. I think there’s a pathway.
Elliotte Friedman on Oilers Now: I think there are teams, if you can get him [Darnell Nurse] down to the 7 million area, who will make this move.
Elliotte Friedman on Vingan and Daunic: What I think is if Edmonton can make a deal, I could see a situation where a team says, can we get permission to talk to Darnell if it’s not one of his 3 teams, see if we can convince him.
Dave Pagnotta of The Fourth Period: Adam Henrique is not expected back in Edmonton.
Elliotte Friedman on The Fan: I think people would be surprised by the amount of interest [Darnell Nurse].
Dave Pagnotta from The Fourth Period: It sounds like Jack Roslovic will be hitting the free agent market next month.
Elliotte Friedman on 32 Thoughts: The belief here is that they’re [Vegas Golden Knights] gonna hire Ryan Craig who was their coach at AHL Henderson.
Frank Seravalli on Blackhawks Breakaway: I have a hard time seeing a path for the Golden Knights to entice Detroit [for Dylan Larkin].
Darren Dreger on The Morning Show: It sure sounds like Dylan Larkin would prefer another US-based team.
Frank Seravalli on Oilers Now: From what I’ve heard in general managers who have spoken to Steve Yzerman [re Dylan Larkin] is that he appears to be in no rush.
Elliotte Friedman on Sportsnet: Several agents of Edmonton players who were not involved in direct conversations with Mike Babcock also voiced concerns, adding they didn’t like the idea of clients being traded there, either.
Friedman adds: There were reports of issues beyond looking at players’ phones that got Babcock into trouble in Columbus. Sources indicate there was at least one other conversation that caused concern.
Chris Johnston on The Neilson Show: There are some that feel the things that went on [with Columbus players] weren’t actually that bad, they were troubling, but that they shouldn’t ultimately keep Babcock from working.
Dave Pagnotta on The Fan: With the needs that Toronto has and want to fill, I do wonder if there’s maybe the discussion of trying to get into a top 5 spot potentially using Matthew Knies. We know Chicago’s interested
Pierre LeBrun from The Athletic: Calgary is willing to make a hockey trade involving Blake Coleman but not a picks deal.
Dave Pagnotta on The Fourth Period: Morgan Frost, in the final year of his deal, he’s available.
Bruce Garrioch from the Ottawa Citizen: The Senators kicked tires with the Blues on Colton Parayko and Justin Faulk at the March 7 deadline. Neither was willing to waive their new move clauses to come to the Senators.
Dave Pagnotta on Hello Hockey: Ottawa wants to upgrade their right side [defense], it’s something they looked at during the season, it’s on the priority list for Steve Staios.
Bruce Garrioch from the Ottawa Citizen: The Citizen was told the club wants to get bigger and harder to play against on the back end. If that’s the case, then Jordan Spence doesn’t fit that mold.
Bruce Garrioch on X: Teams call about defenseman Carter Yakemchuk, but there is a good chance he will start next season with the Senators.
Frank Seravalli on The Big Show: Zach Werenski, I think, is kind of like Brady Tkachuk, teetering on the edge of this being the year, this being the time that he asks, but I don’t know that he’s gotten there yet.
Jeremy Rutherford from The Athletic: I believe the Islanders are a team that he [Jordan Kyrou] would OK a deal to. But are they interested?
Dave Pagnotta on NHL Tonight: Before they made the Brayden Schenn trade, they [Islanders] talked about Jordan Kyrou. It wouldn’t shock me if a Kyrou conversation re-engages.
Nick Kypreos on Sportsnet: Certainly, there seems to be a lot of noise around this player [Connor Hellebuyck] in terms of where his head’s at right now. Teams are watching closely.
Darren Dreger on First Up: I don’t know why Anaheim could or would be a player on say Connor Hellebuyck, because their goaltending is pretty solid but, if you’re the Jets don’t you have to make that call. He could be, would be a pretty good fit. [re Mason McTavish].
More from Dreger on McTavish: This is just being cost effective if you’re Pat Verbeek and the Ducks, because you know that there are big investments coming in the not-too-distant future here, you cannot keep everyone.
Darren Dreger on The Morning Show: To my knowledge he [Hellebuyck] hasn’t officially asked for a trade.
Darren Dreger on That’s Hockey: When you’ve got [Hellebuyck] potentially in play, if the Jets can improve their lineup by adding a #2 [Center] plus plus, then I think Kevin Cheveldayoff is at least willing to consider that.
Darren Dreger on Barn Burner: They’re talking [Cole Perfetti and Winnipeg], but they’re not close on a deal.
Dave Pagnotta on DFO Rundown: We know that the Ducks want a right shot defenseman.
Elliotte Friedman on The Fan: It sounds like Jacob Trouba is hitting the market.
John Hoven on The Hot Stove: Don’t be surprised if you see Vladislav Gavrikov back in Los Angeles this summer.
Frank Seravalli via X: My guess is they’re [Carolina] gonna have a Jesperi Kotkaniemi contract buyout.
Elliotte Friedman on The Fan: I’ve heard that teams have talked to Philly about him [Rasmus Ristolainen]. I think Philly’s got a bunch of different balls in the air. Ottawa had a lot of interest in Ristolainen. Another team I’ve wondered about for him is Montreal.
Anthony Di Marco on Daily Faceoff: The Flyers continue to get calls on winger Owen Tippett.
Pierre LeBrun from The Athletic: I think at least four or five teams in the East will be in on him [John Carlson].
Darren Dreger on The Morning Show: There’s more and more reporting that the Devils are pretty deep in negotiations to extend Nico Hischier.
Chris Johnston on The Chris Johnston Show: I think at this point I’m comfortable saying he’s [Nico Hischier] way more likely to sign than move. It sounds like there’s been some real progress made towards an extension.
Nick Kypreos on Sportsnet: There are some suggestions that his [Sergei Bobrovsky] ask is as high as $42 million over six or seven years.
Chris Johnston on First Up: The expectation still is that he’s [Rasmus Andersson] gonna sign in Vegas, I think.
Pierre LeBrun on Oilers Now: I’ve talked to some teams over the last few days that say Elias Pettersson is definitely available, so is Brock Boeser, obviously so is Jake DeBrusk. They wanna tear it all down.
Also from Pierre LeBrun: The Canucks would have to be willing to retain [on Pettersson], which I think they are.
Darren Dreger on X: Multiple teams exploring a trade with the Buffalo Sabres involving Dman, Bo Byram. Byram has 1 yr left on his contract before becoming an unrestricted Free Agent. Agent, Darren Ferris has some history with marching players to the open market. Motivation for trade consideration.
Dave Pagnotta on Hello Hockey: There’s talk he’s [Bowen Byram] looking at about like 10 million per. For the Sabres it’s not necessarily the money, it’s also the fit. To give the guy that type of bank, you want it to be a 1, 2 type of guy, they also have [Rasmus]Dahlin, [Owen] Power.
Pierre LeBrun from The Athletic: On Alex Tuch, everything was status quo as of Wednesday afternoon: no doors closed on potentially staying with the Sabres, but still likely that he will head to market.
Marco D’Amico on X: John Carlson is looking for a short-term deal with an average annual value similar to the $8 million on his expiring contract.
Pierre LeBrun from The Athletic: The Penguins would have brought him [Anthony Mantha] back on another one-year deal, but that’s not happening. Mantha’s camp, led by agent Olivier Fortier, will bring his client to market.
