Getting to Know Casper Nassen

With the 214th pick at the 2023 National Hockey League Entry Draft, the Boston Bruins select from the Vasteras Jr of the J20 Nationell (Sweden), right winger Casper Nassen.

Nassen is another draft re-entry here by the Bruins. He comes from the J20 Nationell, the same league the Bruins drafted Oskar Jellvik and Dans Locmelis from so we know PJ Axelsson has his fingerprints and his eyes all over this pick.

Again, the Bruins went with size at this pick with Nassen listed at 6’4” and 205-pounds. And once again they went with term. With Nassen committed to Miami University (Ohio) for the 2024-2025 season they will hold onto his rights for 5 years. However, he will need to find a home for next season and could find himself with Vasteras IK in the HockeyAllsvenskan or in HockeyEttan.

The big right winger possesses a heavy shot and a one-timer that could one day rival David Pastrnak. There’s much work to be done here with Nassen and time is on the Bruins side. Technically, he’s a fine skater but if you’re looking for him to go from zero-to-thirty in under, well, I haven’t seen him reach that yet. Any improvement he can make on the speed side will be a bonus, especially when he could get on the forecheck quicker and use that big frame to cause havoc.

As I said, I love the shot and I think he could beat NHL goaltenders with it now. What ever level he gets to though in his career, he will be a goal scorer first and foremost. I do believe he knows and understands what he needs to do but I think he lacks in the vision department to be a playmaker.
